This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Notes East Coast Park is one of Singapore’s most treasured urban getaways, offering an invigorating and exciting diversity of sporting, dining and recreational activities. With the theme “Recreation for All”, the park has an activity for everyone. Families and friends can sit back, relax and enjoy picnics under the swaying coconut palms, Casuarinas and Ketapangs, or have a fun stay at the holiday chalet available in the park. For those looking for action, there are myriad sporting activities such as beach volleyball, cycling, cable skiing and various water sports as well as an Xtreme SkatePark. The public restrooms in East Coast Park (at Areas B1, B2, C1, C4, D1, D5, F1, F2, G1 and G2) are equipped with shower facilities, so you can choose to wash up in the park if needed. In the evenings, have a barbecue or indulge in sumptuous cuisines at the nearby hawker centre or restaurants while enjoying the cool sea breeze. East Coast Park has a total land size of 185 hectares, and a scenic coastline that stretches over 15 km, and attracts a visitorship of more than seven million a year. Biography The children’s playground at Marine Cove which opened in 2016 is located in close proximity to the beach, offering users open spaces and good views of the sea. It was designed to integrate with the surrounding greenery and the beach setting within East Coast Park. The theme of the playground is inspired by the park’s coastal identity and celebrates our local marine environment. Inclusive elements The playground comprises inclusive elements to encourage children of different abilities to play together. The inclusive play equipment is designed with a range of motion, such as spinning, rocking and swinging to improve muscle control. There is a Cozy Cocoon, Bird Nest Swings, a NEOS 360, and Accessible Swing Seats. Tower The 8m high tower is a focal point of the playground. Located in the centre of the playground, it is a three-storey tower modelled after a lighthouse. It consists of many play elements including three slides, a rope bridge and climbing net courses. Notes Park Features 58.78 acres A picnic shelter Concrete walking trail A playground Biography Marion Diehl Playground is hidden behind the aquatic center but accessible via a ramp and sidewalk. The playground is a wonderful inclusive play area with equipment to meet many developmental levels. The playground surface is a rubberized material great for wheelchairs and walkers. The climber includes a ramp and a variety of sensory equipment such as a sensory panel that makes noise, spins around, and includes various textures. There is also a whistle that is played by pulling a lever. The playground also includes a wheelchair accessible water table, spinning solar system sensory table, bouncy car, and dinosaur slide. The park includes both typical and adapted swings and elevated garden beds. Mecklenburg County Parks and Rec says, “Inclusive playgrounds are for children of all abilities. The surface is appropriate for wheelchairs and walkers and the equipment is accessible via ramps. Adapted swings are appropriate for children who may still need the safety of a shoulder strap and high seat back. Inclusive playgrounds also contain sensory equipment such as equipment that provides unique visual, tactile, and auditory stimulation.” *Note: The playground surface is a combination of pour-in-place rubber and wood mulch (EWF) which may make it more difficult for a person using a wheelchair to maneuver through the playground.*

Biography Located at the Greenway’s Baseline Road Trailhead, this playground is operated and maintained by Marion County. It is one of the many recreational sites within the 110-mile long, 80,000-acre Cross Florida Greenway, which stretches from the Gulf of Mexico to the St. Johns River. Boundless Playgrounds® give all children and all generations the chance to enjoy the natural wonders of the environment as they learn together through play. A Boundless Playground® contains elements that provide recreational and educational opportunities for children of all abilities. Simple differences include a poured-in-place rubber surface, ramps on the play sets, an elevated sand table and activity panels ,and swings and bouncers with high-back support. The trailhead includes picnic pavilions , restroom facilities and the 5-mile, paved, multi-use Baseline Road Trail which is a popular venue for walking, running , bicycling and inline skating.

Biography Located off Snow Road in Marshfield Center. The playground is 10,000 sq feet, and has 16 slides, a rock climbing wall, and full access for all children. The playground also incorporates representations of historic town spots, such as the Winslow House and the Marshfield Hills General Store, owned by actor Steve Carell, into the design. Kids at Play in Marshfield is a huge, flat, soft, safe and popular spot with 16 slides, a rock wall, and cute play houses that rise up out of the asphalt of Liberty Plaza. More of a tot spot than for kids looking for thrills or challenges. However, it’s a workout keeping track of your child as there are lots of hidden spots. It’s fully accessible and environmentally sustainable. A big source of pride for the residents who made it happen. Unfortunately, it has no shade except what is created by the huge structure,

Biography The work at Martello Park at Felixstowe includes specialist equipment to allow more inclusive play for children of mixed abilities, including wheelchair-accessible aparatus. The work is part of the ongoing development of the resort’s south seafront was designed to meet increased demands to make the area more accessible for people of all needs. Other recent improvements include new toilets which benefit from additional facilities for disabled people, the rearranging of existing equipment, providing safer grass areas, and installing a new entrance arch, additional signage and wheelchair-friendly picnic benches.

Notes Some play features include: The Airplane: Young pilots and co-pilots will enjoy a fully-accessible cockpit loaded with features. They can communicate with the Control Tower via a talk tube radio and plan their route on the navigation panels. Accessible Slides: The accessible slides lead to rubberized surfacing designed for children with mobility challenges. Sand Castle: Our Sand Castle is located a foot above the sand and features wide walkways throughout, allowing children of all abilities to scoop, build, and discover at elevated sand tables. Water Play: Water offers a wonderful sensory experience for all children but is denied to many children with disabilities. Biography The playground,located in South Los Angeles, has two play areas, one section for two to five-year-olds and another section for five to twelve-year-olds. Features include a swing set, sand play area and a half-height security fence to help provide a safe environment. The UAP also has resilient rubberized surfacing and shade structures for each play area. A totally inclusive play environment incorporates a a Landscape Structures Inc PlayBooster® playstructure with climbers, slides, accessible play panels, ramps, and tunnels. The playground also features a swing set, sand play area and a half-height security fence to help provide a safe environment. One of the features in the Airplane where young pilots and co-pilots will enjoy a fully-accessible cockpit loaded with features. They can communicate with the Control Tower via a talk tube radio and plan their route on the navigation panels. There are also accessible slides, sand and water play. Biography Maryland State Parks have thirty-three accessible playgrounds across the state. All have been designed for children between the ages of 5 to 12 years of age. The ADA Access Specialist within MDNR Engineering/Construction, who also serves on MDNR Disabilities Advisory Council, indicated that the following playgrounds meet the Let Kids Play criteria for inclusion in this directory. You can find a map of each park by clicking on the park name. For more information about additional accessibility amenities such as cabins, camp sites, hunting areas, fishing piers, boat ramps, trails, picnic areas, and other adaptive recreation equipment, visit their Marylands’ Accessibility for All website. There are two accessible playgrounds within this park. One is located in the Picnic Area near the accessible Comfort Station. The second is located near the accessible Camp Shower Building. The park is located on the Eastern Shore, two miles east of Denton, off RT. 404, on Deep Shore Road in Caroline County.

Biography The Mary Virginia Crites Hannan Park sits at the corner of SR 188 and Pontius Road. Considered the crown jewel of the city’s park system, this 72-acre park is the newest and offers a natural park experience. Visitors enjoy an “Boundless Playground”, butterfly garden, a bird watching station, fire pit, a 1.2 mile paved trail, and a splash pad. There is also hiking trails. Notes The beautifully landscaped and peaceful park across from the east entrance to Macy’s Department Store is named for four women, all with the same first name, who made significant contributions to education on the Peninsula. Biography The playground’s design will facilitate sensory experiences in the following areas: visual, vestibular, tactile, kinesthetic/proprioception, auditory and will offer children an interactive experience when visiting the shopping center. Along with sensory play, the playground will also feature interactive mobile experiences. Guests will be able to download the special app to listen to the stories in up to 16 languages, as well as, create and save photos with their children and characters from the stories. The playground will be themed after two classic Hans Christian Anderson stories- The Little Mermaid and the Ugly Duckling. Biography This Shane’s Inspiration and Landscape Structure’s playground and splashpad opened in 2014. A medieval-themed playground was designed for kids ages 2 to 5 to encourage imaginative play. Kids of all abilities can storm the castle, congregate with knights at the round table and jump on the TuffRider® Horse for a quick getaway. Plus, kids ages 5 to 12 will stay active on the sports-themed PlayBooster® play structure. Components mimicking soccer balls, basketballs and baseballs help carry the theme throughout the play experience.
