This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography Hundreds of volunteers built this 1,000 Hands Project. The playground is in the shape of an old fashioned riverboat. There are slides, swings, a music area and a special play village that allows not only physically disabled children to play, but includes children with cognitive disabilities as well. Biography This uniquely themed playground opened in 2014. Made possible by the local firefighters, it has a fire prevention theme. The playground includes several features including: ramped access to elevated play areas, in addition to the typical wheelchair transfer stations. This was made possible by taking advantage of the site’s landscape to create looped accessible routes. a variety of inclusive play components that address the needs of a broad cross-section of special needs. These features include the cozy cocoon for children who are autistic and the metal slide for children with cochlear implants. a Fire Safety and Prevention theme promoting role playing through toy fire trucks and a rescue boat glider. Safety messages are reinforced through the use of graphics and text slogans on panels in the playground. the Intermediate Adventure play area features a one of a kind twinned obstacle course to simulate a Fire Fighter training challenge, complete with a zip-line rescue.

Notes Liberty Park offers four tennis courts, two handball courts, two basketball courts, five sand volleyball courts, two horseshoe pits, three large children’s play areas, and two miles of walking trails. There are a total of four shelter houses in Liberty Park that would make a beautiful and fun spot to hold your upcoming graduation parties and family get gatherings. Biography The playground has a popular rolling slide, a Sway Fun glider, sand area and lots of flowers planted along the perimeter. The shelter house offers a broad picnic patio, picnic tables that will accommodate wheelchairs and spacious bathrooms, including a family restroom. Read a review.

Biography On those hot summer days, be sure to check out the splash pad at Harvey Curry Park, home of “EVERYkids Park”, located between Lawrence Avenue and Town Line. There is a parking lot located on Town Line for your convenience. The splash pad operating hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily through Friday, September 11. The splashpads will close at 6 p.m. daily beginning Saturday, September 12 through Friday September 18. They will be closed for the season as of 6 p.m. on September 18. Washroom/changeroom facilities will be open only during splash pad hours.

Skate Park – The Pitt Skate Park can be used for skateboards and skates daily and bikes on Wednesday. Sledding – The sledding hill, on the south side of the park, used by kids of all ages during the winter months. Tennis and basketball – Tennis and basketball courts are located at the northeast corner of the park. Volleyball – Two sand volleyball courts, located on the south side of the park, are available for public use. Parking is available on Neshoba Road. Biography Everybody’s Tree House at Riverdale Park is a place for everybody to experience nature through play. The innovative model addresses the need for all children – of all abilities – to play. Everybody’s Tree House is inclusive for people of all abilities and incorporates play with elements of nature. The playground structure incorporates activities for moderate to vigorous physical activity. Structures include a tree house with access to people of all abilities, swings, gliders and more.

Notes The park features: colorful slides tubes bridges adapted swings interactive puzzles a quiet area a dragon mister a Sway Fun Biography Children with and without special needs are invited to the Everychild Foundation Universally Accessible Playground at Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital. This bright and safe play area provides children with integrated play opportunities through specially-designed playground equipment with sensory features. Opened in February 2008, the Playground accommodates children with wheelchairs, leg braces, crutches and other barriers that would otherwise leave them confined to the sidelines at traditional playgrounds. The Playground provides a colorful, safe and stimulating outdoor haven for children in the community — regardless of their physical limits — to come together, play and learn from each other. The nearly half-acre play area features special equipment in a modern and creative environment. The Playground has sturdy foam ground cover to protect children from falls and yet is wheelchair-friendly. The park features a wonderland of brightly colored slides, tubes, bridges, swings, interactive puzzles, a quiet area and lush landscaping for children ages 2 to 12. A water feature shoots columns of water up from the ground while a whimsical blue-eyed red dragon puffs clouds of mist down toward children, which is especially useful on hot days. A gently sloping ramp includes motion sensors that, when triggered, set off musical chimes. Through a joint-use agreement with the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, the playground is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week (except holidays), with maintenance and security provided by the city. This is a Shane’s Inspiration Playground done in collaboration with RecWest Outdoor Products. Special Saturday Play Dates Hosted by Support Groups The Everychild Foundation Universally Accessible Playground at Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital offers free Saturday “Play Dates” with coordinated activities including face painting, arts and crafts, entertainment, and treats (but please feel free to bring a sack lunch). LAOH support groups Las Niñas and Juniors/Pinafores host these events that offer members opportunities to volunteer.

Notes Fairland Regional Park includes more than 150 acres of parkland that has been developed for recreational use. The Gardens Ice House is also located on this site. The park also includes four lighted softball fields, an inclusive playground, and a stormwater management demonstration project area. Biography M-NCPPC has Boundless Playground adjacent to the Fairland Aquatics Center parking lot. A public/private partnership recognized the need for playgrounds where children of all abilities could laugh, play and grow together. A Boundless Playground is a playground where at least 70% of the entire playground is universally accessible to all children. It features a sand play area with a shade structure, a pre-school play area designed for children ages 2-5 and a swing area. Fairland’s Boundless Playground is Maryland’s tenth.

The playground includes a tot lot for smaller children, an older children’s play area with a mini climbing wall and slide, and drums to beat and bells to ring. The Century Wall that has sounds and a panel on the floor so you can play music with your feet. This unique playground was made by Landscape Structures and Coast Recreation. The area has a splash fountain and a carousel for children. The park also includes handicap accessible rental paddle boats.

Biography Three main play areas make up the design of Hadley’s Playground. A pirate ship, castle and Lincoln Log type fort encourage kids to play both imaginatively and actively. These structures are huge and incorporate many climbing and sliding areas as well as places meant for pretend play. You can storm the castle, captain a pirate ship and hide away in your own fort, all in Potomac! There is also a “challenge” area with three sets of monkey bars, rings and a climbing wall. Four swings round out the play equipment.

Notes Surrounded by trees, a creek and a nature trail, Kiest Park includes 16 hard tennis courts and a pro shop. Kiest Park is an excellent part of the Dallas Parks and Recreation Department. This 248 acre park in southwest Dallas is composed of a championship softball complex, auxiliary softball fields, a baseball field, a soccer complex, sand volleyball courts, tennis courts, and a recreation center. Home to adult sports and youth sports alike, Kiest Park is a facility that is well tended and is an ideal spot for a wide variety of events. Biography This a nautical-themed play structure that’s completely handicapped and wheelchair accessible. It features a custom Lighthouse, a SwayFun glider, ships, a two seat tuffrider, and more. Note: the surfacing is wood mulch (EWF) which may make it more difficult for a person using a wheelchair to maneuver through the playground.
