This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography One of the biggest playgrounds in the area along with Brookdale, this one provides plenty of structures to entertain your children. With the rubber ground cover, you will not need to worry about getting wood chips in your sandals! Ball field is nearby. One of the highlights is the great spider web structure, and plenty of slides, this playground is also fenced in. No permanent bathrooms, but there are 2 port-a-potties. Biography Nassau County announced in November 2016 it had completed construction on a new handicap-accessible playground and sports field at Eisenhower Park, located near the park entrance at Stewart and Merrick Avenues. This playground is the second accessible playground installed in Eisenhower Park. The first, located at Field 4, opened in May 2012 in conjunction with Let All The Children Play (LATCP) – a Long Island-based not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives and dignity of all children by developing accessible playgrounds and inclusive recreation programs. The new accessible ball field, opened in conjunction with the League of YES, has been designed not only for baseball, but for multiple sports and uses state of the art turf suitable for walkers, wheelchairs and other adaptive mobility devices and prosthetics. With the creation of the new field, the League of YES is now able to provide special needs baseball fans in Nassau County and beyond the opportunity to play the game they love.

Biography The playground opened in 2014. Some of the features of this Landscape Structure’s playground include: an OmniSpin Spinner, a We-saw with back support, roller slides, bouncers, inclusive swings, several sensory panels and monkey bars. A basketball court and tennis court are also on site. The playground is recommended for children ages 2-12 years old.

Biography Maryland State Parks have thirty-three accessible playgrounds across the state. All have been designed for children between the ages of 5 to 12 years of age. The ADA Access Specialist within MDNR Engineering/Construction, who also serves on MDNR Disabilities Advisory Council, indicated that the following playgrounds meet the Let Kids Play criteria for inclusion in this directory. You can find a map of each park by clicking on the park name. For more information about additional accessibility amenities such as cabins, camp sites, hunting areas, fishing piers, boat ramps, trails, picnic areas, and other adaptive recreation equipment, visit their Marylands’ Accessibility for All website. The playground at Elk Neck is located next to the accessible camp store and the accessible Putt-Putt Golf. Elk Neck has several new campsites with full hook-ups that are fully A.D.A. accessible including a sidewalk to an accessible bathhouse. Several sites are available for hunters with disabilities during shotgun and muzzleloader deer seasons. The park is in Cecil County, 10 miles south of the town of North East on MD 272.

Notes At this Park The largest community park in Madison Parks, Elver Park spans an impressive 250 acres in the southwest corner of the city. Here, you’ll find a variety of recreational features offered throughout the year: hiking trails, accessible playground, basketball courts, tennis courts, splash park, disc golf course (permit required), reservable softball diamonds, soccer fields, and shelters. Winter sports include ice skating, sledding, and cross-country skiing (permit required)– all have lighting for evening recreation during the open season. SPLASH PARK: Madison Parks offers three splash parks – Cypress, Reindahl and Elver – each featuring spray toys and fountains for children of all ages. The areas are fenced and gated, free to use and open daily 10:00am – 8:00pm typically Memorial Day Weekend and continuing, weather permitting through Labor Day weekend. Biography The playground area, opened in 2019, was made possible with donations from the Evjue Foundation and the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation features a poured-in-place rubber surfacing, partial fence enclosure, surrounding concrete path, retaining wall and four benches. Unique features of the nautically themed playground include a drawbridge-like entryway from the parking lot, a ribbon of blue flowing through the surfacing with alligator steppers swimming inside and an inclusive rocking ship with porthole openings for climbing in and out or keeping watch. Highlighting the City’s commitment to promoting equality for all, the new playground demonstrates the importance of inclusion for Madison’s youth.

Biography As children enter this fully accessible sensory-rich space, they’re immersed into their surroundings which has realistic surfaces including a variety of exhibits such as hollow trees, themed forest floor, wall murals, streams of water, tree forts, and more. They are transported into an alternate universe where light changes from sunrise to night time complete with twinkling stars and the sounds of the forest which switches from the morning twitter of birds to evening crickets and howls. The outside is the extremely imaginative Village which lyes on the edge of the Enchanted Forest. Kids can discover the Hobbits secret homes, surrounding the sacred magical dragon tree protecting the Village. Biography The Enfield Rotary Accessible Playground is brand new and fabulous! Older kids will love the tall, steep slides and the ginormous spider web rope structure- located smack dab in the center of the playground. The toddler area is different from any in the region. Instead of a structure, there are individual elements to play on like a rockin’ river raft, a hippo you can walk into, a play house and more. The toddler area is separated from the older kids area by a picnic pavilion. The sight lines are not great- so this is a two adult playground if you have multiple kids with various ages. The playground is located in front of the Enfield Public Library. During the summer, the cool library provides a respite and bathrooms. The children’s reading room is filled with comfy book nooks and computer game stations. In the fall and spring, it is a place to warm up.
