This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography This Shane’s Inspiration playground includes colorful, sensory-rich equipment such as musical instruments, buttons that emit sounds and chime panels, and swings or see-saws with high backs offer support. Canopies over the structures don’t just provide shade, but offer protection to those sensitive to heat or light because of medication. The equipment is from Landscape Structures and the playground consultant on this project was RecWest Outdoor Products.

Biography This is the 28th universally accessible and inclusive playground to be developed by Shane’s Inspiration and the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks. The equipment was built by Landscape Structures and features a sea-creatures theme. The playground incorporates some musical elements for kids to engage with. There is plenty of parking and a ton of space for running around. The tot park is separate from the main play equipment. This playground is not fenced. Equipment includes: Bridges, Bubble Windows, Climbers,Crawl Tunnels, Musical Elements, Play Panels, Pod Bridge,Pod Climbers, Ramps, Rubberized Surface, Slides, Talk Tubes, Tot-Park, Twister Slide

Biography Maryland State Parks have thirty-three accessible playgrounds across the state. All have been designed for children between the ages of 5 to 12 years of age. The ADA Access Specialist within MDNR Engineering/Construction, who also serves on MDNR Disabilities Advisory Council, indicated that the following playgrounds meet the Let Kids Play criteria for inclusion in this directory. You can find a map of each park by clicking on the park name. For more information about additional accessibility amenities such as cabins, camp sites, hunting areas, fishing piers, boat ramps, trails, picnic areas, and other adaptive recreation equipment, visit their Marylands’ Accessibility for All website. The playground is located above Lake across from accessible Comfort Station #2. The park is located in Swanton.

Biography This playground opened in 1956. Construction started in 1952 and was the brainchild of Archer Garner and Hank Ketcham, the creator of the famous Dennis The Menace comic strip. While the playground is not 100% accessible, much of it is and it includes a quiet area in the form of a maze. The playground has been updated several times since it opened and new inclusive play pieces have been added. While much of the original playground still exists, there are a lot of opportunities for inclusive play. The playground has many benches for parents to supervise and is fenced all around. This playground was ahead of its time and is a definite favorite among local children. Biography The JCC is conveniently located in Stamford, Connecticut, at the corner of Newfield Avenue and Vine Road with easy accessibility to both the Merritt Parkway and the Connecticut Turnpike. The playground allows every child can reach the highest play deck. There are cozy spots where everyone can gather. Equipment includes swings and bouncers have back support and elevated sand tables and activity panels. The playground is built on two levels: Mikey’s Playground, the early childhood area for ages two to five on the upper level, and the Didi Wein Playground, for children five and older, on the lower level. Mikey’s Playground is named in memory of Michael Dorf, the late son of Fran and Bob Dorf. The lower playground is named for the late Didi Wein. Following her death in the late nineties, Didi’s friends not only donated the funds, but actually constructed the playground with their own hands. Biography Dilly’s Place was started with $20 and a prayer. It took 10 years to raise the funds to build this playground. Mission Statement “To seek and improve the health and welfare of the communities in and surrounding Conway Springs, Kansas and provide a safe, appealing and universally accessible playground for children of all ages and development. ” About This Cause We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit that is all volunteer, non-political, subject to bylaws and is organized as charitable. This organization has built and all inclusive safe playground which means it is universally accessible and configured to support a child’s development. It was built where children of all abilities can play together. Funds were raised for ten years and built in 2019. For the last 8 years, Dilly’s Place provides a safe family Fun Day FREE to Special Needs Families at the local YMCA Camp Hyde. Families have come as far as Oklahoma, Missouri, and Nebraska. This is the only Family Fun Day in Kansas and the Surrounding States that it’s sole purpose is 4 hours of Family fun.
