This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Notes A prominent feature of the park is the the convenience of being able to play with your child at the park and explore the library without having to move your car! Biography Angel Park is a all-inclusive playground built by the greater Perry Hall community in 2016. Designed by 4,500 children and the professionals at Leathers & Associates. Angel Park is the County’s largest all-inclusive playground specifically designed to accommodate children with special needs by eliminating physical and social barriers to inclusion. The two main components of the park are the playground and amphitheater. The playground includes a wheelchair-accessible “shaky bridge,” a Braille panel, therapeutic swings, 30-foot accessible zip lines, as well as quiet spaces for children with autism and other conditions. The storybook theme features a fire truck, pirate ship, castle, tree house and music stations. Local elements include a seafood store, a Terps turtle, a Police station, an ice cream shop and more.

Biography Annie’s Playground has several unique features including a treehouse, amphitheater/outdoor classroom, puppet theatre, dragon and elephant slides, baseball area and Memorial Garden. Surrounding the playground in Edgeley Grove Park, are sports complex, ma and pa walking trails, and several picnic areas. Over a thousand people worked round the clock for weeks to build the playground from the ground up. Several artists from the area spent countless hours painting beautiful paintings on the playground equipment. This is a Leathers and Associates playground.

The Playground is located between the Houck Area accessible Bath House and Lake Picnic Area near the accessible Food Concession. Cunningham Falls State Park, located in the Catoctin Mountains, is known for its history and scenic beauty, as well as its 78-foot cascading waterfall. There is accessible access to the falls via a 300 yard long trail from Maryland Route 77. Cunningham Falls is located west of Thurmont MD, 18 miles north of Frederick MD.

The playground at Elk Neck is located next to the accessible camp store and the accessible Putt-Putt Golf. Elk Neck has several new campsites with full hook-ups that are fully A.D.A. accessible including a sidewalk to an accessible bathhouse. Several sites are available for hunters with disabilities during shotgun and muzzleloader deer seasons. The park is in Cecil County, 10 miles south of the town of North East on MD 272.

Notes Fairland Regional Park includes more than 150 acres of parkland that has been developed for recreational use. The Gardens Ice House is also located on this site. The park also includes four lighted softball fields, an inclusive playground, and a stormwater management demonstration project area. Biography M-NCPPC has Boundless Playground adjacent to the Fairland Aquatics Center parking lot. A public/private partnership recognized the need for playgrounds where children of all abilities could laugh, play and grow together. A Boundless Playground is a playground where at least 70% of the entire playground is universally accessible to all children. It features a sand play area with a shade structure, a pre-school play area designed for children ages 2-5 and a swing area. Fairland’s Boundless Playground is Maryland’s tenth.

Biography Three main play areas make up the design of Hadley’s Playground. A pirate ship, castle and Lincoln Log type fort encourage kids to play both imaginatively and actively. These structures are huge and incorporate many climbing and sliding areas as well as places meant for pretend play. You can storm the castle, captain a pirate ship and hide away in your own fort, all in Potomac! There is also a “challenge” area with three sets of monkey bars, rings and a climbing wall. Four swings round out the play equipment.

The playground is located past the accessible Fort Buildings. Located just one-half mile west of Fort Frederick is the Western Maryland Rail Trail, a 23-mile long paved path that follows the former Western Maryland Railway line. The Rails to Trails Conservancy recently chose the Western Maryland Rail Trail as one of the top 12 trails in the United States for viewing fall foliage. Fort Frederick State Park is located in the Cumberland Valley, 18 miles west of Hagerstown and one mile south of I-70 near Big Pool (Rt. 56, Exit 12). The park is 88 miles from Baltimore and 81 miles from Washington, D.C.

There are four accessible playgrounds at Gunpowder Falls State Park. In addition the park offers other accessible amenities including an accessible floating boat dock, picnic areas, NCR/Torrey C. Brown Trail, visitors’ center, path to swimming beach, beach bathhouse and day use pavilions. The playgrounds are located: 1) next to accessible Comfort Station #1 and accessible Shelter #1; 2) next to the accessible River Bath House; 3) next to accessible Comfort State #2 and accessible Shelter #2; and 4) next to accessible Comfort Station #3 and accessible Shelter #3. The park is in Harford and Baltimore Counties, Park headquarters is at 2813 Jerusalem Road in Kingsville, Harford County.

Biography Located across from the Carroll County Farm Museum on Center Street in Westminster on property of Carroll Springs School. The playground includes rubber surfacing, ramps, high-back swings, accessible activity panels and more! It also includes physically challenging activites. The playground is designed to encourage inclusion and interaction among all children without regard to physical ability.
