This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography The 12,000-square-foot playground is also accessible for children and caregivers of all physical abilities. Rosedale playground’s features include: National Mall-themed play equipment. This custom equipment was designed especially for Rosedale, and elements include the White House, the US Capitol, the Lincoln Memorial, the Hirshhorn Museum, the Washington Monument, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, the Natural History Museum, and the Air and Space Museum. Ramped access to the play equipment. The ramps are wide enough to allow two wheelchairs to pass each other or travel through the equipment together. Seating within the play equipment to allow caregivers or children to rest when needed. Sensory elements such as finger mazes, musical instruments, talk tubes, a sensory wall, and more. There are also quiet places for imaginary play for children who may prefer less stimulus. The Omni Spinner is a high-backed version of a Merry-Go-Round and allows children to be transferred into the equipment from a wheelchair or walker. The Spinner is good for sensory play, social skills, and team work. The Sway Fun Glider has room for two wheelchairs, plus two large benches for other passengers. Slides, overhead activities, and climbing features are located throughout the equipment. New signs, water fountains, and shade structure, with accessible picnic tables underneath, perfect for family gatherings. The main parking lot features new ADA accessible parking spaces. MORE PHOTOS

Notes Includes: Sway Fun Sand Area Shade Picnic Area Slides Musical Instruments Biography Children who use wheelchairs can play just as freely on a wheelchair as if you don’t require one. Two wheelchairs can pass on the ramps and there are large decks with crow’s nests. Children can wheel out from under the main traffic flow. At Riverside Village double wide ramps and extra large decks combine to provide exceptional elevated play space with ample room for multiple players with and without mobility devices. n addition to traditional slides and climbers, many different sensory experiences have been purposefully included to appeal to a wide range of users. Auditory, visual, olfactory, tactile, swinging, spinning and balancing opportunities are included, to name a few. Whether exploring independently or with friends and family, there is always something new to discover. There are special features, including musical instruments and miniature backhoes for playing in the sand. This is NOT the Ranger Station on Santa Clara Street that is shaped strangely and hangs out over the river. From Southbound 101, take HW 87 South. Take the Taylor Street exit. Turn RIGHT on Taylor Street. Turn LEFT on Coleman Avenue. Turn LEFT into our facility at the Autumn Street intersection. Go straight towards the Rotary Children’s Playgarden, or hang a right to park closer to the Visitor Center. From 280, take HW 87 North. Take the Julian Street exit. Turn RIGHT on Julian and then LEFT on Market Street changes names to Coleman Avenue. Turn RIGHT at the light at Autumn and go straight towards the Rotary Children’s Playgarden, or hang a right to park closer to the Visitor Center. From 880, take the Coleman Street exit heading South towards downtown. The nearest Light Rail stops are St. James Street and Japantown/Ayer. Biography The Rotary PlayGarden, the Rotary Club of San Jose’s centennial gift to our community, opened in April 2015. The $6 million PlayGarden enables children with special needs to play alongside their siblings and friends and will be maintained by Guadalupe River Park Conservancy via volunteers, in-kind donations, and fee-for-service contracts. We will also build on our existing programming for children with special needs by offering seasonal after school and weekend programs in the PlayGarden. It is open daily from 10:00am to 6:30pm.

Biography A Boundless™ Playground donated by the Rotary resides in Smallenburg Park. This is a family oriented park and playground adjoined by the Bouws outdoor community pool and the Holland Municipal Stadium which is used for interscholastic football and soccer for area schools and Hope College. The playground was funded in part by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation‘s Able to Play project in honor of the Foundation’s 75th anniversary.

Biography The equipment for this playground comes from Landscape Structures and the playground consultant was Rep Services. There are two playgrounds. The larger blue playground is completely accessible and has a separate area for younger children as well as baby swings. In addition, the playground includes water mist, interactive video game, rope jungle gym, tire swing, slides, tunnels, monkey bars and much more. There are covered picnic tables and easily accessible restrooms.

Biography Maryland State Parks have thirty-three accessible playgrounds across the state. All have been designed for children between the ages of 5 to 12 years of age. The ADA Access Specialist within MDNR Engineering/Construction, who also serves on MDNR Disabilities Advisory Council, indicated that the following playgrounds meet the Let Kids Play criteria for inclusion in this directory. You can find a map of each park by clicking on the park name. For more information about additional accessibility amenities such as cabins, camp sites, hunting areas, fishing piers, boat ramps, trails, picnic areas, and other adaptive recreation equipment, visit their Marylands’ Accessibility for All website. This park has 7 accessible playgrounds. Five are located at the East Beach area, while the other two are located at the South Beach Area near the accessible Beach Bath Houses. Sandy Point State Park also offers accessible amenities, including: food and beverage concession, fishing, picnic areas, shelters, bathhouses, and sailing concessionaire. The park is in Anne Arundel County, at the western terminus of the Bay Bridge, off U.S. Routes 50/301 at exit 32.

Biography Atlanta’s Sara J. González Memorial Park, the first park named for a Latino in the State of Georgia, honors inclusiveness and cultural diversity while providing all-abilities accessible child and family oriented greenspace to the growing Atlanta Westside community it serves. It was inaugurated in October 2018 with Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms keynoting. The park features ADA-compliant wheelchair access throughout, a playground for children of all abilities, a children’s open field soccer area, the first electricity-powered “Learning Nook” thanks to Georgia Power Foundation, and a legacy plaza that celebrates Atlanta’s broad population. The Sara J. González Memorial Park commemorates the legacy of Ms. González — a devoted mother and Cuban immigrant whose faith in the American Dream propelled her from small business owner to revered Hispanic, immigrant and minority-rights leader who served all in her community with joy and compassion. Located at Coronet Way and Bolton Road on Atlanta’s Westside, in the same neighborhood where Ms. González lived for 30 years until her passing in 2008, this trailblazing park pays tribute to Ms. González’s love of children, support of families, and her lifelong advocacy for inclusiveness and tolerance.
