This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Notes In 1963, Shirley Ann Williams and her mother moved to the O’Fallon neighborhood, where she lived in the same house until her demise on January 27, 2013. During this time, she was a founding member of the O’Fallon Community Organization. She also served as the organization’s treasurer, historian and all other capacities to make it one of the most outstanding neighborhoods in North St. Louis. Further, Shirley Ann volunteered with many political campaigns, nationally and locally and was active member of the 21st Ward.Shirley Ann found time to tutor children, be involved in the African American Genealogy Society here in St. Louis and attend most cultural events in our city. On the groundbreaking February 22, 2014 the name of the playground was announced as Cornerstone Playground. This playground is dedicated to Shirley Ann Williams. Biography It features an outer space theme that includes a rocket ship, airplane, rubber tile safety surfacing, swings, net climber and is an “out of this world experience it”

Biography The Inclusive Playground is located in the Knoll and Eucalyptus area of the park. The accessible playground was built by theAmerican Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons as part of their annual meeting, in partnership with KaBOOM! In addition to wheelchair ramps, the playground features braille signs, a scent garden, a swing with a full-body harness and extra wide slides that can accommodate parents holding children.

Biography This Shane’s Inspiration and Landscape Structure’s playground opened in 2014. The Gig Harbor Maritime PlayZone project is an all-ability, all-inclusive play experience that gives every child a place to play as well as providing easy access for grown-ups of all abilities. The playzone includes an accessible fishing vessel representing the Gig Harbor fishermen of today, as well as other fun and challenging all-inclusive play equipment. Notes DIRECTIONS: From Rt. 80, Take Exit 299 (Tannersville) Make a right off the exit ramp onto 715 North. Take your first left (at the light, just before the Crossings Factory Outlets) onto Sullivan Trail. Follow Sullivan Trail approximately 1 mile. The Park is on the right across from Barley Creek Brewing Company. FROM ROUTE 611 North. Take Left at 715 S. First right onto Sullivan Trail. Follow Sullivan Trail approximately 1 mile. The park was opened in 1978 and offers three ball fields, one soccer field, two tennis courts, two basketball courts, four pavilions- including grills, well-equipped playgrounds, rest rooms, and nature trails. Biography Maryland State Parks have thirty-three accessible playgrounds across the state. All have been designed for children between the ages of 5 to 12 years of age. The ADA Access Specialist within MDNR Engineering/Construction, who also serves on MDNR Disabilities Advisory Council, indicated that the following playgrounds meet the Let Kids Play criteria for inclusion in this directory. You can find a map of each park by clicking on the park name. For more information about additional accessibility amenities such as cabins, camp sites, hunting areas, fishing piers, boat ramps, trails, picnic areas, and other adaptive recreation equipment, visit their Marylands’ Accessibility for All website. The Playground is located between the Houck Area accessible Bath House and Lake Picnic Area near the accessible Food Concession. Cunningham Falls State Park, located in the Catoctin Mountains, is known for its history and scenic beauty, as well as its 78-foot cascading waterfall. There is accessible access to the falls via a 300 yard long trail from Maryland Route 77. Cunningham Falls is located west of Thurmont MD, 18 miles north of Frederick MD.

Biography Students at Curtis School in Los Angeles, Calif., are connected with nature during recess each day. The school is home to a nature-inspired playground with PlayOdyssey® Tower, Netplex® and PlayBooster® playstructures. Elements like Palm Tree Accent post toppers, the custom tower roof and wood-grain panels provide more of the natural playground theme. Biography 40 percent of the Meeting Street campus is reserved for green space for outdoor play areas, accessible paths that wind through landscaped areas. Built in partnership with the Providence City Parks Department, the South Side Soccer Field at Meeting Street opened in 2009. Our fully accessible playground was completed this spring. Everything outdoors and inside Meeting Street is fully accessible so children with and without disabilities can learn and play together.

NOTE: The surfacing is a mix of pour-in-place rubber and wood mulch (EWF) which may make it more difficult for a person using a wheelchair to maneuver through the playground.
