This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography “Cambridge Park has a neat play area that is designed for kids of all abilities. I love it when all kids can participate. There are two play structures, one of which is wheelchair accessible. There are also neat play instruments that a visually impaired child could really enjoy. The park has two of each type of swing, including two handicapped swings. There is lots of rubberized turf and also tanbark ground covering. One downside is the lack of shade over the play area. The play structures offer lots of climbing opportunities and six slides between them. One structure also has a small tunnel. Biography CAMDEN Playground was built in 1993, a community build effort, with 2,700-3,000 people involved. At the time it was built, it was the most accessible playground (others prior were, at the most, 40% accessible, CAMDEN is 80-100%) in the world , and the largest accessible playground (nearly the size of a football field). It was completed in May, 1993 and is now 21 years old. Because they were so rare, I wrote a booklet to help others build similar playgrounds and currently have around 200 accessible playgrounds modeled after CAMDEN Playground all around the world, including Holland, Germany, India, several in Canada, and of course, all across the USA, just to name a few countries. The playground has won awards at Local, State, and National levels, and is the most popular one in the area with a castle, dragon, moat, lifesized sea turtle and Alligator. See pictures

Notes FEATURES & AMENITIES Toddler playground equipment for 2-5 year olds which is ADA accessible. Small ballfield area. Picnic tables as well as grill. A portable restroom may be available from May-August. 16 parking spaces as well as 2 handicap parking spaces. This park has a new trail that is lit in the winter for skiing and in the summer there are points of interest for viewing salmon spawning. You can bike, run, or walk on the trail. There are fishing seasons on Campbell Creek. You can obtain additional information from Fish and Game. Located in the Campbell Creek Greenbelt.

Biography Can Do Playground is located in the eastern section of the new Alapocas Run State Park that is part of the Blue Ball Project adjacent to Route 202 in north Wilmington, Delaware. Biography his project was created in collaboration with Community Works, LLP of Ithaca, NY. They designed and lead volunteers in the construction of the wooden structure while Parkitects did the same for the Landscape Structure Inc’s play equipment. The result is a beautiful blend of the two materials and a great new play environment for the children of Caroline Elementary.

Biography Since 1999 the Carousel For All Children has been bringing old-fashioned fun back to Staten Island. Kids of all ages can clamber aboard their favorite hand-carved wooden animal figure and enjoy one of yesteryear’s most popular pastimes in one of the Greenbelt’s loveliest settings. From May through October the Greenbelt Conservancy is pleased to offer families this enjoyable and affordable experience. The Carousel is open on major holidays through October. Carousel rides are just $1.50 per person. Discounted multiple ride vouchers are available for sale at the Carousel ticket booth – $25.00 for 20 rides. About The Carousel for All Children The carousel spins in a counter clockwise direction; rides last for approximately 2 minutes. The Carousel For All Children is accessible to all people, including those who have physically challenges. The staff is available for anyone who requires special assistance. Designated parking and low curbs are readily available.

Notes Carpenter Park, located at 3498 E. 112th Ave., directly behind the Carpenter Recreation Center, is open to the public daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. In addition to the playground, there is a splashground, a boat house, a carousel, skatepark and trails. Sports facilities include: Basketball Courts Bocce Ball Horseshoe Pits–Please bring your own equipment. Shuffleboard–Please bring your own equipment. Sand Volleyball Courts–Please bring your own volleyball. Net is provided. Lighted Tennis Courts Biography With multiple playstructures—an Evos® playsystem, a Weevos® playsystem and a PlayBooster® playstructure—kids of all ages and abilities will enjoy an imaginative play area that invites endless activity. Biography Carriage Place Park Playground was built by volunteers in a day in September 2009. This 13 acre park also features a picnic area, a recreation center, and a trail. The surfacing is a combination of pour-in-place rubber and wood mulch (EWF) which may make it more difficult for a person using a wheelchair to maneuver.

Notes Dove Park was established in 1970. This park is a community park with a swimming pool located in the park. Basketball, tennis, in-line hockey and sand volleyball courts are located to the north of the pool. Casey’s Clubhouse is situated in the southeast corner of the park. This is a accessible play structure. Other amenities include a 8’ wide x .5 mile concrete walking trail, two gazebos, and restrooms.
