This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Notes This 98.0-acre site is located in the North Rosedale area northwest of downtown Gig Harbor. The property includes 76.0 acres of meadow, naturalistic pond, wetlands, and forest conservancy area. There are 22.0 acres of active recreation with a 375-foot baseball field, two 300-foot combination baseball and softball fields, an artificial turf soccer field, two tennis courts, a basketball court, a Boundless Playground which offers recreation for children of all abilities, one picnic shelter, several picnic areas, an outdoor performing arts amphitheater, an indoor pavilion, concessions, restrooms, drinking fountains, Heritage & Master Gardener Demonstration gardens and 4 miles of trails on the property. Biography This certified Boundless Playground opened in 2010. It was developed by The Greater Gig Habour Foundation and you can find additional photographs on their site. The playground includes a ramp structure, an accessible glider, a supported see-saw and rubber tile surfacing.

Biography This Shane’s Inspiration and Landscape Structure’s playground opened in 2014. The Gig Harbor Maritime PlayZone project is an all-ability, all-inclusive play experience that gives every child a place to play as well as providing easy access for grown-ups of all abilities. The playzone includes an accessible fishing vessel representing the Gig Harbor fishermen of today, as well as other fun and challenging all-inclusive play equipment. Biography Landscape Structures sponsored National Association of Elementary School Principals’ (NAESP) annual Community Service Day, during which nearly 100 elementary and middle school principals built an inclusive playground at Hawthorne Elementary School. The artful-looking PlayBooster® Vibe® playstructure is set on top of colorful PebbleFlex® safety surfacing featuring the school’s mascot. Kids ages 5 to 12 get to swing from, climb over and spin around some of the coolest components. Plus there are plenty of interactive sensory panels at every level. Notes The Renton Accessible Playground is an exciting joint effort between the City of Renton, the Renton School District, Renton Rotary and is also supported by multiple community funding partners and individual contributors. The accessible playground is being designed for all ages and abilities. It will share property between the new Meadow Crest Early Learning Center (formerly Hillcrest Early Childhood Learning Center) and the North Highlands Neighborhood Center. And there’s an official name,Meadow Crest Playground. Biography This playground opened in 2014. Biography Built in 2019 with features for a wide variety of abilities. Featuring a poured in place rubber surface which allows for safe play for all. Interactive panels designed to allow space for wheelchairs to fit, multiple cozy spaces for sensory relief and a variety of swings (traditional bucket, toddler bucket, adaptive and disc for interactive play). With the goal of having something for everyone the park also features a large net climbing structure designed support children’s development of balance and appropriate risk taking skills. There are bathrooms onsite, benches and an ADA picnic table. For anyone with mobility challenges it is recommended you park on 184th vs. the lower parking lot as the grade is much easier to navigate for this park sits on top of a hill.

Notes Memorial Park is a 13 acre community park that features a large, 50 meter lap pool and multiple sports fields. Features Basketball Court Covered Picnic Shelters Covered Play Area Outdoor Pool Picnic Area Playground Restrooms Softball Field Volleyball Court Directions From West Court Street, go south on 14th Avenue, and turn right onto Shoshone. Biography Tire Pros and ATD have partnered with Boundless Playgrounds, Inc to open public “Tread Town” playgrounds constructed from hundreds of recycled tires. Too often, kids with disabilities are excluded from one of the simplest joys of childhood – playing at a playground. But these playgrounds are built to be completely inclusive, so children of all abilities can play together. Tread Towns include ramped wheelchair access to the highest platforms, state-of-the-art solid harness swings for kids who need extra back support, and lots of fun fitness and education-based activities for everyone.
