This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography Ashley Nicole Dream Playground, Knoxville’s first totally accessible playground and winner of the 2005 Tennessee Recreation and Parks Association’s Best Facility Award, is located in Caswell Park, across from the softball complex. Opened in June 2005, the Ashley Nicole Dream Playground is Knoxville’s first 100 percent accessible playground and is named in honor of Ashley Nicole Manes, who suffered injuries in a 1999 automobile accident that left her paralyzed.

Biography The playground opened at Warriors’ Path in April 2007 featuring a variety of outdoor recreation experiences for children of all abilities. Along with the fully-accessible playground area, the complex also features: *Lions Narnia Braille Trail* with eight sensory stations along a quarter-mile, wheelchair-accessible Trail that tell visitors the story of Aslan, the lion in C.S. Lewis’Chronicles of Narnia fantasy. *Anderson Treehouse, a fully-accessible treehouse Palmer Center Foundation Amphitheater*, a fully-accessible facility able to host audiences from 200 to more than 1,000.

Notes This 20-acre park also contains a street hockey rink, a pavilion, picnic sites with tables, grills and trash receptacles, a lighted softball field, a batting cage, a concession building, restrooms, two lighted tennis courts, two small softball practice fields, ADA-accessible playground equipment and a drinking fountain. Parking is available on Neshoba Road. Biography Everybody’s Tree House at Riverdale Park is a place for everybody to experience nature through play. The innovative model addresses the need for all children – of all abilities – to play. Everybody’s Tree House is inclusive for people of all abilities and incorporates play with elements of nature. The playground structure incorporates activities for moderate to vigorous physical activity. Structures include a tree house with access to people of all abilities, swings, gliders and more.

Notes A green oasis in the downtown area, located at 30 E Broad St, across from the City Municipal Building. It’s a great place for lunchtime picnics. The Department’s Performance Pavilion is located in this park. This park is also home to a beautiful interactive fountain which flows daily throughout the spring/summer season. The Heart of the City Playground, the area’s only all-inclusive, fully-accessible playground, was also built inside the park in late 2015. Biography The playground features: A ramped structure Shaky bridges, bouncy bridges and ramps that feature different textures and different kinds of movement Roller Table Accessible Swing Seats Bird Nest Swing An Ability Whirl (fully accessible merry-go-round–you can roll right onto with a wheelchair) Free-standing items that offer hands-on educational experiences for playground goers including a music station, sign language panel, clock and marble maze Balance Beams and Upper Body activities Pour-in-Place Rubber Surfacing

Notes Completed in the Spring of 2013, Wear Farm City Park is a beautiful new facility that serves as the main park for the City of Pigeon Forge. It features the following facilities: Facilities: Five 300’ lighted softball/baseball fields One lighted football field One multi-purpose field Two playgrounds Three shelters Walking trails Basketball court Two concession stand/restroom buildings Maintenance support facility Irrigation throughout the park Ample parking Biography Playground which opened in 2014 includes an OnmiSpinner, Evos Climbing System, and Net Climbers. Additions were added in 2015 including a Roller Table and a Sensory Wall.

Biography Tire Pros and ATD have partnered with Boundless Playgrounds, Inc to open public “Tread Town” playgrounds constructed from hundreds of recycled tires. Too often, kids with disabilities are excluded from one of the simplest joys of childhood – playing at a playground. But these playgrounds are built to be completely inclusive, so children of all abilities can play together. Tread Towns include ramped wheelchair access to the highest platforms, state-of-the-art solid harness swings for kids who need extra back support, and lots of fun fitness and education-based activities for everyone.

Biography Warriors’ Path is the only Tennessee State Park with a Boundless Playground – where children of all physical and mental abilities can play together.
