This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography A very small accessible playground \ is located on South Ridge Drive in Allegheny County’s North Park. The playground features double-wide ramps, specialized swings, handle bars, climbing walls and platforms capable of accommodating two passing wheelchairs. Unlike other rainbow-colored slides and rides in the park, the all-inclusive equipment has a black-and-gold Pittsburgh theme.

Notes Adventure Park includes Adventure Zone Playground, the New Fitness Trail, Volleyball Courts, Snow-Tubing Hills and more. The entire park is an accessible playground that allows all children, regardless of their ability, to play side by side. It is the result of hundreds of individuals and businesses partnering together for a better community. Biography The playground includes, slides, climbing areas, swings, monkey bars, sliding poles, a toddler area, maze, games, and much more. So what are you waiting for? Bring your kids and enjoy the day here at the playground. The playground is part of a 53 acre community park that has been in development by Capital Area Christian Church and includes picnic pavilions, soccer fields, a winter recreation area, and coming soon, volleyball courts and the Adventure Fitness Trail! Biography On Boundless Playgrounds, youngsters who use wheelchairs are able to access slides and swings are designed to accommodate children with physical disabilities, among other features. The county’s playground program has won numerous state and local awards, including a 2011 award from the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society. This is one of six boundless playgrounds in Lackawanna County.

Notes McDade Park Features: An Olympic-sized swimming pool with bath house Children’s fishing pond stocked several times a year Basketball and Tennis courts Softball field Two pavilions Outdoor picnic areas with charcoal grills Almost 2-mile cross country running course and hiking trail system Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour Complex with concession stand and gift shop Pennsylvania Anthracite Heritage Museum and gift shop Cancer Memorial Garden and arboretum Bocce courts Multipurpose field for soccer and lacrosse Free sports equipment rentals Large, open fields for Frisbee in the summer and cross country skiing in the winter Biography The centerpiece of the Boundless Playground is an apparatus full of swings, slides, places to twirl, games to explore and areas to climb. The main structure is surrounded by an outer path that includes a butterfly garden, wind chime area, sand and water tables, and an old-fashioned bench swing. Autistic children have two “quite” areas designed with them in mind. Slides and swings are accessible to children in wheelchairs. The playground is surrounded by a special rubber safety surface to cushion falls. This is one of six boundless playgrounds in Lackawanna County.

Biography A small all-inclusive playground located near O’Block Playground off of Monroeville Trestle Road (Center Road). Boyce Park features wheelchair-accessible ramps and platforms wide enough for two wheelchairs to pass one another, specialized swings designed for different age groups and handlebars at the slides and climbing walls. Other facilities that offer activities which are wheelchair-accessible include the Four Seasons Activity Center, the Nature Center, the Wave Pool, Tennis Courts, and the Picnic Hut.

Biography This destination playground opened in 2010. The playground was designed with the support of parents of children with disabilities. An important motivation in providing this active venue was a report that 48% of the children in Allentown are considered overweight or obese. The playground includes the newest in technology and also a youth fitness trail that was designed to draw and encourage children to play and exercise. The playground includes a huge electronic game called NEOS. The playground also has seating and a pavilion for shade. The entire playground is fenced for safety. There is a bathroom on sight with water fountains. There is ample parking off of Ott Street. Watch Video from the Grand Opening:

Biography To honor a 5-year-old boy who lost his life, his parents set out to build an inclusive playground at the elementary school he once attended. Working with their local playground consultant, General Recreation, the Hinishes determined what features were necessary and those they would include should they surpass their fundraising goal. The playground design was a fully-accessible PlayBooster® play structure, Sway Fun® glider, sensory play activity panels, the Rollerslide and Roller Table, plus all of the traditional playground pieces kids love. The Zack Hinish Foundation organized more than 70 volunteers who helped install the new playground over four days. Notes DIRECTIONS: From Rt. 80, Take Exit 299 (Tannersville) Make a right off the exit ramp onto 715 North. Take your first left (at the light, just before the Crossings Factory Outlets) onto Sullivan Trail. Follow Sullivan Trail approximately 1 mile. The Park is on the right across from Barley Creek Brewing Company. FROM ROUTE 611 North. Take Left at 715 S. First right onto Sullivan Trail. Follow Sullivan Trail approximately 1 mile. The park was opened in 1978 and offers three ball fields, one soccer field, two tennis courts, two basketball courts, four pavilions- including grills, well-equipped playgrounds, rest rooms, and nature trails. Biography Built by the local Rotary, this sprawling PlayBooster® playsystem is inclusive for all abilities. Poured-in-place safety surfacing allows for easy accessibility to the structure and an extensive ramping system takes kids right to the heart of the action. Lots of play components welcome all ages and abilities including the Sway Fun® Glider. Playground equipment is from Landscape Structures Inc and was built by General Recreation.

Biography This playground includes a unique Excavating Pit – a spacious, cool and comfortable sand area. There is a Curved Track Ride – a fun glide ride that offers 8 to 12 year olds a challenging workout. A magnificent Playweb provides opportunities to build balance and creative thinking for 4 year olds and up. There is also a Sway Fun® Glider – a giant adaptive glider offering exciting movement for children of all ages. These are just a few of the over 50 pieces of play equipment at Firefly Field.
