This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography The All-Access to Play playground includes stainless steel slides and adapted swings. The highlight of this playground is the spray fountain which is multi-purpose as well as multi-seasonal. There is a stone wall seating area surrounding the plaza. This area is a lot of fun with bronze ants climbing upon the wall. The stone wall area also has incomplete nursery rhymes written on it for new readers to enjoy filling in or caregivers sharing in the fun. During colder months the plaza turns from water into an area where children still play around whimsical features or enjoy the entertainment of a professional performance. There is a changing room. Notes This park has a 260,000-gallon outdoor swimming pool and lots of playground equipment. It also has three tennis courts, skate park, and basketball court, all equipped with lights so they can be used day or night. There are three shelters for picnics and other social events – some are equipped with grills. The park also has three ball fields and two soccer fields. Biography Inspired by their son Braden, Jason and Sarah Schott dreamt of building a field for the Ste. Genevieve chapter Challenger Baseball team they started. Part of their bigger dream for a park where children of all abilities could play together, they were happy when the community center became interested in adding an all-inclusive playground and having the Schotts help with the design. With the expertise of Unlimited Play, they broke ground in the early part of 2016 using a master drawing featuring the playground with the theme of Ste. Genevieve as a farming and river town. Construction was completed and the playground held grand opening in September 2016, where the Community Center dedicated the playground to the Schott family and friends by naming it Braden and Friends Challenger Playground.

There are traditional, toddler, ADA accessible and 2 Biggo Flyer Saucer Swings. The playground has fully accessible splash pad for those hot summer days. Freenotes Playground Instruments bring true tone to the area and there is and custom piano (like in the movie “Big”. There is an area for toddlers as well as school-aged children. In addition there is a Climbing Net – Spiderweb themed with custom fully-backed seats and Rollerslide and metal slides. Brandon’s Playground is a project of Unlimited Play. Biography Playspace features a great shelter house and composite playground structure on thick rubber tiles. Great spinning pieces, a gazebo and a fantastic soccer field with competition goals. Nearby is a beautiful trail through the scenic ridge and valley. Great spot for a picnic or outdoor classroom event. NOTE: The surfacing is a combination of Rubber Tiles and wood fiber (EWF) which may make it more difficult for a person using a wheelchair to maneuver through the playground.

Biography Playground includes a wheelchair swing. It is designed with is a slide and climber in each corner so that a parent can stand in the middle and help their child up the climber and down the slide without having to go up the equipment with them.

Notes City Park was established as Liberty’s first park in 1949. It encompasses 12 acres in the heart of Liberty. It’s playground and sprayground are popular attractions for children, especially during the warmer months. This park features 2 Picnic Shelters (closed during construction) 1 Spray Ground 1 Playground 2 Horseshoe Pits 1 Soccer Field 1 Baseball Field 1 Softball/Multi-Use Field 1 Restroom Park Hours: Daily 6 AM – 10 PM Biography The inclusive playground in City Park opened at the end of 2021. Newly renovated City Park creates a play space for all abilities. New amenities include; spinners, swings, we-go-round, slides, 2-5 year old playground, 6-12 year old playground, climbers, sensory amenities, game tables, new restrooms, and new spray ground. Notes In 1963, Shirley Ann Williams and her mother moved to the O’Fallon neighborhood, where she lived in the same house until her demise on January 27, 2013. During this time, she was a founding member of the O’Fallon Community Organization. She also served as the organization’s treasurer, historian and all other capacities to make it one of the most outstanding neighborhoods in North St. Louis. Further, Shirley Ann volunteered with many political campaigns, nationally and locally and was active member of the 21st Ward.Shirley Ann found time to tutor children, be involved in the African American Genealogy Society here in St. Louis and attend most cultural events in our city. On the groundbreaking February 22, 2014 the name of the playground was announced as Cornerstone Playground. This playground is dedicated to Shirley Ann Williams. Biography It features an outer space theme that includes a rocket ship, airplane, rubber tile safety surfacing, swings, net climber and is an “out of this world experience it”

Biography Designated as “Boundless Playground #49 by the National Center for Boundless Playgrounds, this playscape features a separate loose-fill play area that included pour-in-place rubbern surfacing into the main deck of the KOMPAN Pirate ship. This Kindergarten area also features a colorful trike track and rocking piece with support back and sides. The 2nd-3rd composite structure is ramp accessible but activities for children with disabilities, although in compliance with ADA, are still limited. The KOMPAN Galaxy structure is accessible at ground level to get ALL children into the Center of Play. It has the same concrete ramp and access area as Woodland Elementary. Spinning pieces compliment this great playground that will help ALL children play together. Located in a fast developing area of town.

Notes Huckleberry Park is located at Highway 61 South and Huckleberry Drive. It consists of 63 acres of rolling hills, wooded areas, a pond and scenic natural views. Amenities include two rentable shelters. Shelter #1 has electricity, shelter #2 does not. Park also has picnic tables, benches, an 18-hole disc golf course, 4 non-lighted tennis courts, half-court basketball, 2 outdoor racquetball courts, 1 lighted softball field, Hannibal Ramp Park, nature trails and restrooms next to the main shelter Biography The playground includes: Omni Spinner Oodle Swing Musical Instruments Module Structures Swings (Belt seats and accessible swing seat) There is an orientation path around the entire playground. The surfacing in engineered wood fiber which might make it more difficult for some people to maneuver throughout the playground.

Biography Kade’s playground is an all inclusive playground themed around the giant Mt. Vesuvius Volcano, Herculaneum, and Pompeii in Italy. This GameTime playground structure is fully wheelchair accessibleby ramps, playground features: high back swings, a saucer swing, rubber safety surfacing patterned likeflowing lava, sensory interactive panels and all kinds of musical instruments like drums and xylophones. These convert to volleyball courts for youth and adult leagues. “Open gym” recreation is available when leagues are not in session. Biography The playground opened in September 2021 and is a place where all children, regardless of abilities, can play together. The City of Clinton partnered with Shane’s Inspiration/Inclusion Matters on the project Children with physical, social-emotional, sensory, cognitive, and communicative disabilities can play alongside able-bodied children, with ALL benefiting from the health and socialization aspects of a playground. Adults with disabilities are able to access the play area to accompany their children/grandchildren while playing. This is especially beneficial to military members who are facing the challenges associated with reintegrating into civilian life after deployment. For military members with physical disabilities, full participation in family life is vital to the family’s well-being. The all-inclusive playground is located adjacent to the Clinton Community Center and Aquatic Center at 1002 E. Sedalia Avenue. Biography From website, “Our plan is to build a playground with play options for all children. With a surface similar to astro-turf, the playground will be fully accessible to children in wheelchairs. Parents in wheelchairs will have the ability to join their kids and push them on the swings. The playground will have a high-backed see saw and merry-go-round, designed to support children with limited upper body strength, as well as high-backed swings. It will have a Cozy Dome—a climbing structure that also provides a good place for a child with autism to decompress and reduce excessive stimuli. There will be several playground pieces that can assist with vestibular stimulation through spinning. There will be metal slides that kids with cochlear implants can use (typical plastic slides have too much static), shade for kids who can’t have too much sun and braille and sign language panels for all kids to learn. It will be designed so that children in wheelchairs can climb up high (a priority for those in wheelchairs) and it will have a special “Sway Fun Glider,” a play area designed so that a child doesn’t have to be transitioned out of their wheelchair to play with their peers.’ Playground opened in fall 2016.
