This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Notes Amenities: Blue Mountain is among the City’s original parks and continues to be a vibrant community space. Within this beautiful urban forest setting, a network of paths lead the visitor under a canopy of tall Douglas Fir, Red Cedar, North Red Oak, and even Redwood trees. A variety of sport and recreation amenities, including a grass playing field, ball diamond and three tennis courts, invite both casual and organized play at the park. On warm summer days, the wading pool and spray park are popular meeting places for families. Biography The playground nearby provides a variety of accessible features: a rubberized safety surface, climbing ropes, roller slide, oodle swing, music chimes, and a practice bike path invite discovery and fun for all abilities.

There is also a school-age play structure, a medium spinner a balance beam swing and large platform swing. There are other areas for climbing. There is a great merry-go-round that has ropes for climbing up. This is s hard to describe but it is really great piece of playground equipment. So visit Calgary Playground Review to see the picture of it. You will also find more information and lots of pictures. There are flat grassy areas as well as a steep hill and a soccer field. There is little shade except over the preschool playground which is provided by canopies. There are also 3 benches around the play area.

ThisLandscape Structures playground is aimed at accessibility for people of all ages with disabilities. The surfacing is recycled tires. There is a medium sized play structure which includes a roller slide and two low ramps. There is a Gazebo which provides some shade, a Sway Fun, accessible play panels, a large accessible swing, and other easily accessible items for gross motor play.

Biography Cambrian Heights Park Playground has a huge level of variety and items not found at many other parks. There are actually two playgrounds located within a short distance. Playground 1 is school-age and Playground 2 is a preschool playground. Playground 1 has a large school-age play structure with 2 slides and 3 large saucer swings. There is a gong with chimes (missing mallet) and a store panel for imaginative play. There is a merry-go-round climber, a medium and a big ring spinner as well as a bowl spinner. There is great ground access throughout the play area. A few things can be accessed from a wheel chair and more can be enjoyed by someone who had a support person who can assist and transfer Playground 2 accommodates proficient walkers through age 4. The ground cover is pea gravel so children who are not proficient walkers will experience more enjoyment at Playground 1. There is a Preschool play structure with 2 swings. One swing is an infant swing. There are 2 bouncers and a dinosaur climber. There is great shade from mature trees and 1 bench for seating.

Biography Opened September 30, 2009. The structures and independent play areas, designed by Habitat Systems Inc. and Landscape Structures, have many options for ground level play that are accessible, inclusive and FUN! Ground level play as opposed to ramp access. The accessible components were chosen by parents with physically challenged children and the therapists working with them. Path placement and other elements of the design were planned in order to facilitate a flow of inclusive play and social interaction. The playground features: touch panels, wind chimes, balance beam, spring and balance apparatus, toddler structure with swings, adapted swings, a First Nations Medicine Wheel, basketball court, shaded accessible picnic areas, and benches. The First Nations Medicine Wheel used in First Nations culture as a symbol of the life, health and values of an individual, community or Nation.

Biography Centennial Park is one of Langford’s best all ages parks. Located halfway between Downtown and Langford Lake, Centennial Park is the perfect place for a gathering or baseball game. Four baseball diamonds, two tennis courts, and a washroom/concession building keep adults happy while two playgrounds entertain the kids – one of which is the newly upgraded intermediate, playground with an Explorer Dome and new, wheelchair -accessible picnic tables. Little ones will enjoy the firefighter-themed splash park as well. Both playgrounds are specially surfaced to accommodate children with physical challenges. Getting to Centennial Park is made easy by City of Langford’s own Trolley. Parking is also available.

Biography Clifford Bowey Public School Playground opened in 2016– located a behind Clifford Bowey Public School and the Deborah Anne Kirwan City Pool. The playground features a rubberized play surface, accessible playstructures with ramps and transfer stations, a raft swing, a swaying boat, a spinning cup, a variety of activity panels, and a communication board. A perimeter fence provides additional safety. The playground is open to the public outside of school hours.

Biography Opened in April 2014, the park features a high-end children’s playground, basketball play area, park benches, picnic tables, bike racks, an open grass area, and interpretive nature signage. A woodlot and a significant wetland area in the park will be preserved. The park is located near Forestview Elementary School.

Biography This uniquely themed playground opened in 2014. Made possible by the local firefighters, it has a fire prevention theme. The playground includes several features including: ramped access to elevated play areas, in addition to the typical wheelchair transfer stations. This was made possible by taking advantage of the site’s landscape to create looped accessible routes. a variety of inclusive play components that address the needs of a broad cross-section of special needs. These features include the cozy cocoon for children who are autistic and the metal slide for children with cochlear implants. a Fire Safety and Prevention theme promoting role playing through toy fire trucks and a rescue boat glider. Safety messages are reinforced through the use of graphics and text slogans on panels in the playground. the Intermediate Adventure play area features a one of a kind twinned obstacle course to simulate a Fire Fighter training challenge, complete with a zip-line rescue.

Biography On those hot summer days, be sure to check out the splash pad at Harvey Curry Park, home of “EVERYkids Park”, located between Lawrence Avenue and Town Line. There is a parking lot located on Town Line for your convenience. The splash pad operating hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily through Friday, September 11. The splashpads will close at 6 p.m. daily beginning Saturday, September 12 through Friday September 18. They will be closed for the season as of 6 p.m. on September 18. Washroom/changeroom facilities will be open only during splash pad hours.

It was assembled in a day with volunteers from the parent group and community of Ingersoll.
