A Boundless™ Playground includes a Sway Fun Glider resides in Inglenook Park. The Play Farm at Inglenook Park consists of farm-themed play equipment, including tractor bouncers, animal cutouts and an enormous playscape that has red barn top roofs throughout.

The new Play Farm will be the largest playground in the city, complimenting the existing fitness trails, ball diamonds and the restored Miller Barn at the 42-acre Inglenook Park. The safety fall zones surrounding the play equipment are covered by a combination of rubber and wood fiber safety surfacing.

The Play Farm exceeds federal standards for accessibility, allowing children of all abilities an opportunity to play together. Federal guidelines require that 50 percent of a playground’s elevated structure be accessible. By comparison, a “Boundless Playground” requires that at least 70 percent of play activities serve children with physical disabilities, allowing for greater “integration” of all children.

The playground  funded in part by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation‘s Able to Play project in honor of the Foundation’s 75th anniversary.

Note: The surfacing is a mix of pour-in-place and wood mulch (EWF) which may make it more difficult for a person using a wheelchair to maneuver through the playground.

Hardy Elementary School playground is handicap accessible with a compliment of swings and equipment for special needs children.

A new, fully accessible, 1.2-acre playground was built at Patriarche Park with the help of hundreds of community volunteers in 2014. The Playground in the Park “Re-Imagined” project was the result of a great partnership between the City of East Lansing and the Rotary Club of East Lansing; and could not have been built without the tremendous support of the community.

There are trees to climb and swings to fly on, and garden seating for adults still is in the works. The 1.2-acre playground is handicap accessible, has a rubberized play surface, walkways and a rain garden.

The playground includes two fully accessible wheelchair swings, a Jam Box and a variety of auto-sensory elements that allow children to have fun while improving physical, sensory and cognitive abilities. The area will also include a garden that is accessible by wheelchair. Playground opened in September 2014

The entire park is designed to be universally accessible and barrier free. There are no steps or ramps for any of the facilities or features in the park and may be used by any individual regardless of their ability or lack of ability.

The playground, addition to a ramping system, this Landscape Structures‘ PlayBooster® playstructure offers unique play experiences with many sensory play panels, bridges, slides and climbers. Children of all abilities will be right in the middle of the action while visiting this inclusive play space. The playground consultant was Superior Play.
