This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography Tread Town’s foundation was constructed from recycled rubber including approximately 400 recycled tires, creating a universally accessible surface that allows children and caregivers with and without disabilities to navigate the playground freely and safely. The playground promotes inclusive, unstructured play with ramped wheelchair access to the highest platforms, and features an exclusive Tread Town tire swing, state-of-the art solid harness swings for children who need additional back support, and a multitude of other cutting-edge fitness and educational-based activities. This Boundless™ Playground was built with funding in part from the American Tire Distributors, Inc. Note: A portion of the surfacing is wood mulch (EWF) which may make it more difficult for a person using a wheelchair to maneuver through the playground.

Biography Tree Top Playground is a project o fUnlimited Play. Tree-house theme encompasses the playground. There are traditional, toddler, ADA accessible and Biggo Flyer Saucer Swings. There is a fully accessible splash pad for those hot summer days. Freenotes playground instruments bring true tone to the playground. There is both a toddler and school-aged sections that include rollerslide and metal slides.

Notes Hoffman Park is 53 acre active mixed use Community Park located northeast of the downtown district. To the north is the Boy Scout Conservancy Area; to the south are the Greenwood Elementary sport fields; Greenwood Cemetery is located to the west, and located just east is the First National Bank of River Falls Field, home of the Fighting Fish. Along the southern edge of the Park, bordering Division Street, is the Greenwood Detention Basin which also doubles as a sport field and open space. As of 2015, Hoffman Park is home to the Tri-Angels Playground. Well-maintained volleyball courts, a nine hole disc golf course, baseball fields and campsites are just some of the other major highlights of the park. Lighting is focused around the baseball fields and skate park. The shelter buildings can be reserved after January 1 of each year. Call 715-425-0924 to reserve a shelter. Access to the Park by foot or vehicle can be found off of Division Street and Hanson Drive. Biography Tri-Angels all inclusive playground was built as a memorial to honor three girls and how they lived, rather than their tragic deaths. The playground is themed around what the girls were interested in -Fashion, Bugs, and Sports. The playground features multiple GameTime play structures, ramped and accessible, playful art climbers, saucer swing, accessible swings, traditional swings, music, shade and other site furnishings. Biography The playground features a Noah’s Ark and Bible verses on signs in Braille. There’s also a Crooked House Chapel with specially designed wider doorways. A steel drum that looks like a lady bug sits on the artificial turf installed especially for crawlers and new walkers. A Wheelchair Gondola has been installed so that all children can swing together. The lower playground has been landscaped with Engineered Mulch which may make it difficult for people using a wheelchair to maneuver throughout the playground. The upper playground has artificial turf for crawlers and new walkers. Playground Hours: Monday – Friday: 12:00pm -dusk Saturday: all day (until dusk) Sunday: 12:00pm – dusk

Biography Maryland State Parks have thirty-three accessible playgrounds across the state. All have been designed for children between the ages of 5 to 12 years of age. The ADA Access Specialist within MDNR Engineering/Construction, who also serves on MDNR Disabilities Advisory Council, indicated that the following playgrounds meet the Let Kids Play criteria for inclusion in this directory. You can find a map of each park by clicking on the park name. For more information about additional accessibility amenities such as cabins, camp sites, hunting areas, fishing piers, boat ramps, trails, picnic areas, and other adaptive recreation equipment, visit their Marylands’ Accessibility for All website. The playground is located at Cherry Lane Picnic Area next to the accessible Comfort Station and accessible Picnic Shelter. Tuckahoe State Park is located approximately 35 miles east of the Bay Bridge, just off MD Rt. 404, on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Biography Playground opened in 2014. The surfacing is a combination of Sof Tiles and wood mulch (EWF) which may make it more difficult for some people to maneuver throughout the entire playground. Equipment includes: ramped structure, accessible glider, different spinners, benches, a variety of slides (including a metal one), musical instruments, swings with accessible swing seats, a group swing, cozy places for children who get overwhelmed.

Biography This playground is a testament to the determination of a parent in championing its development, and the creativity of a landscape architect in integrating the playground into a beautiful, wooded hillside. Working with the playground designers at Landscape Structures, landscape architect, Phil Barlow, and the folks at Boundless Playgrounds®, the parent designed an enormous 25,000 square-foot playground that is unlike anything else. At the crest of the playground is a wheelchair-accessible tree house featuring an enclosed deck that is used by teachers to host classes. Cascading down from this vantage point is a series of play areas linked by walkways and poured-in place surfacing. Two bridges overlook a man made stream and waterfall, a picnic area protected by CoolToppers® shade systems and a wheelchair maze constructed from hedges. The site also feataures a Sway Fun® glider that allows children of all abilities to experience a swinging motion along with all of their friends. The playground consultant on this project was O’Brien & Sons.
